Australia is unlikely to pursue a bid for hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2030. The close scheduling to the Summer Olympics, set to be held in Brisbane in 2032, is a significant factor influencing this decision, according to industry officials.
Craig Phillips, the Australian Commonwealth Games Association chief executive, stated that the organization is not actively pursuing a bid unless a governmental body expresses interest. He cited challenges such as the demands on commercial partners and government levels required with an Olympics and Paralympics impending.
The planned 2026 Games in Victoria were canceled due to escalating costs, marking the second time consecutive Games have had to be relocated after South Africa's Durban was replaced by Birmingham in 2022 due to financial issues.
