Gulmarg's Transformation: India's New Winter Sports Hub

Gulmarg, in Jammu and Kashmir, is set to become a premier winter sports destination, as announced by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, during the fifth Khelo India Winter Games closing ceremony. Mandaviya, along with prominent state leaders, underscored the government's strategy to bolster winter sports facilities and talent.
Addressing the gathering, Mandaviya highlighted India's vast youthful potential, spanning ages 9 to 24, and proposed establishing district-wide sports schools to identify and nurture raw talent. The minister praised Jammu and Kashmir for its exemplary coaching programs, encouraging other states to emulate their model.
Mandaviya also revealed ongoing consultations with sports leaders to lay groundwork for hosting the 2036 Olympics. Meanwhile, the Indian Army retained its title at the Winter Games, leveraging experience from international competitions. The Games showcased remarkable achievements from states sans natural winter sports terrain, proving the success of India's initiatives.
