Notable former off-spinner Graeme Swann suggests that strategies focusing on match-ups, coupled with a cautious playing style, have contributed to this trend.

Ravichandran Ashwin, known for his off-spin mastery, was unexpectedly dropped by Chennai Super Kings mid-season. In contrast, Sunil Narine of Kolkata and Rajasthan's Maheesh Theekshana have leaned towards mystery spin, while all-rounders like Will Jacks and Aiden Markram have been selected specifically to counter left-handed batsmen.

Swann critiques the new focus, arguing that off-spinners' reticence to attack and 'rip the ball' limits their effectiveness.
