The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for one week, citing escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. This announcement, made by BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, highlights the cricket board's continued support for the Indian Armed Forces and government.
The suspension was prompted by increased cross-border hostilities, affecting the ongoing tournament. Rajeev Shukla confirmed that consultations with government officials, stakeholders, and broadcasters will determine the new schedule. The announcement came as a surprise to fans who were eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
This high-stakes match was interrupted and eventually canceled mid-innings for security concerns, with spectators evacuated and teams escorted to safety. Sanjay Sharma of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association confirmed preemptive communications with relevant authorities. To ensure player safety, the BCCI arranged a special train to transport teams and crew from Dharamshala to Delhi.
