The Indian U17 wrestling team's participation in the World Championship in Athens faces uncertainty due to significant delays in visa processing by the Greek embassy. Scheduled to leave on Saturday, the 47-member contingent, which includes 30 wrestlers, is still waiting for visa approval.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) took action by contacting the Ministry of External Affairs after waiting 12 days with no response from the embassy. WFI President Sanjay Singh expressed frustration over the delays and emphasized the importance of international exposure for young athletes.
The situation has also drawn attention from the United World Wrestling President, who requested support from the Hellenic Olympic Committee to expedite the process. The Greek embassy cites processing times of up to 15 days as a reason for the delay, complicating the team's chances to compete.
