Fluminense's veteran goalkeeper Fabio has matched an iconic record in men's soccer by equalling Peter Shilton's longstanding tally of 1,390 competitive appearances. His remarkable career milestone came on Saturday in Fluminense's 2-1 victory over Fortaleza in Brazil's Serie A.

Fabio, who is 44, began his professional journey 28 years ago and has played for four clubs, accumulating senior games for Uniao Bandeirante, Vasco da Gama, Cruzeiro, and Fluminense. His achievement, confirmed by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, is described by Fabio as a 'gift from God'. He expressed gratitude to his family and teammates for their support.

As he eyes future matches, Fabio is poised to surpass Shilton if featured in Fluminense's upcoming Copa Sudamericana clash against America de Cali. Shilton has noted Fabio's progress and expressed his willingness to acknowledge the Brazilian if he sets a new record.
