Indian cricket star R Ashwin has sought to clear the air regarding his remarks about Dewald Brevis' acquisition by Chennai Super Kings, highlighting the South African cricketer's batting prowess over the signing sum. Recent discussions arose after Ashwin mentioned on his YouTube channel that CSK was prepared to invest more in Brevis, leading the franchise to issue a statement.
Ashwin elaborated, describing Brevis as a "special talent" and noted the flexibility surrounding injury replacements in the IPL. He highlighted that Brevis' signing was above board according to IPL standards. On the heels of Ashwin's comments, CSK reiterated the adherence to league procedures as they added Brevis as a substitute player in April 2025.
Reiterating his stance, Ashwin underscored the importance of making clarifications to prevent misunderstandings, praising CSK for their "mind boggling" decision to sign Brevis, who has been in remarkable form with powerful batting displays, including huge sixes.
