The Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025 is anticipated to be a turning point for Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the famed Dal Lake area. Scheduled from August 21-23, this open-age competition features over 400 athletes representing 36 states and Union territories, all competing in rowing, canoeing, and kayaking events.

Local athletes like Muhammad Abbas Kand from Srinagar are gearing up for this major event. Abbas, who trained intensely at a camp in Nehru Park, aims for gold in the lightweight rowing doubles category. "The event brings crucial attention to water sports here," he noted, eager for the competition to commence.

Other athletes, such as Zahid Hussain and Irtiza Ali, share this enthusiasm. While Zahid focuses on the canoe slalom event, Irtiza strives to improve his past bronze medal outcome in rowing. The festival symbolizes not only a sports event but a chance for athletes to learn from top competitors and elevate J&K's sports profile.
