The cricket community, including former Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga and Afghan cricketer Mohammad Nabi, expressed their condolences online, offering support to the young player during this challenging time.
Sri Lanka's head coach Sanath Jayasuriya also paid tribute to Dunith's father and assured the young cricketer that the team and nation stand by him. It remains unclear if Dunith Wellalage will rejoin the tournament.
