The Indian senior women's football team faced a dramatic defeat at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Monday, succumbing 1-2 to Nepal in their second match of the Women's Tri-Nation International Friendlies. Nepal's Sabitra Bhandari, who scored twice at the 2nd and 63rd minutes, steered the visitors to a crucial victory.
Nepal's early aggression paid off as Bhandari capitalized on a loose ball, skillfully maneuvering past the Indian goalkeeper to score within the first two minutes. As India struggled for a breakthrough, Nongmaithem Ratanbala Devi's dynamic play from midfield orchestrated multiple, yet unsuccessful, attempts towards Nepal's goal.
Despite tightening their defense, India couldn't curb Nepal's striking prowess, conceding a second goal. Nonetheless, India persevered and was rewarded when Karishma Shirvoikar scored her inaugural senior-team goal, igniting hopes for a comeback. However, Nepal's defense held firm under pressure, securing their triumph.
