Former India hockey defender Birendra Lakra has taken on a new challenge as the assistant coach for the Indian men's junior hockey team. Despite finding coaching more demanding than playing, Lakra is enthusiastic about honing his skills and embracing new coaching methodologies to advance his career.

Working alongside his former teammate and chief coach PR Sreejesh, Lakra is guiding the team through the ongoing FIH Junior World Cup in Chennai and Madurai. Although he has not yet completed an FIH coaching course, Lakra plans to enroll in one after the tournament to enhance his expertise and confidence.

During matches, Lakra communicates tactical instructions to players, with insights from Sreejesh, who observes the game from strategic vantage points. The duo's longstanding partnership and mutual understanding contribute to their effective collaboration in developing junior hockey talent.
