In a pre-match press conference, India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, confirmed that key players Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya have been declared fit ahead of the T20I series opener against South Africa. The clash will take place at the Barabati Stadium, marking the start of the five-match series between the two sides.
Gill, who was previously sidelined during the second Test and the subsequent three-match ODI series against South Africa due to neck spasms, has made a full recovery. After missing out due to this injury, sustained during the first Test in Kolkata, the cricketer completed his rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence and is now ready to make his return.
Similarly, Hardik Pandya has overcome a quadriceps injury suffered during the Asia Cup 2025. Despite missing the tournament final and the Australian series, Pandya demonstrated his regained fitness while playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His return to the squad is seen as pivotal, with Suryakumar acknowledging Pandya's invaluable experience and balance he brings to the team.
