World number one Aryna Sabalenka is unfazed by the potential impact on her sport's reputation as she prepares to take on Nick Kyrgios in an exhibition match dubbed the 'Battle of the Sexes.' Sabalenka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, will go up against the Australian player, currently ranked 672nd in the world.
'I am not putting myself at any risk,' the 27-year-old Belarusian expressed in a BBC interview. 'Our goal is to enjoy the event and bring great tennis to the audience. It's widely acknowledged that men are biologically stronger, but this match aims to elevate women's tennis.'
The exhibition echoes the famed 1973 match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. While critics have emerged, Sabalenka remains confident, despite Kyrgios' remarks about the divide in tennis abilities. Kyrgios hopes the match will foster respect across genders, contributing to unity in the tennis community.
