The Leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, addressed a letter to Governor C V Ananda Bose on Saturday, calling for an unbiased judicial probe into alleged administrative turmoil and public humiliation witnessed at a football event featuring Lionel Messi at Salt Lake Stadium.
Adhikari contended that the publicly funded stadium was transformed into an exclusive gathering for political elites, leading to spectator agony. The event drew ire as attendees protested inadequate viewing due to obstructed sightlines and VIP interference, culminating in a chaotic eruption.
Post-event, Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee initiated a high-level inquiry, yet Adhikari criticized its independence, citing potential biases. He urged for a committee led by an impartial Calcutta High Court judge, emphasizing themeasures needed for restoring dignity and accountability for the mishap.
