Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the launch of 'Project Mahadeva,' a football development program, on Sunday. The initiative focuses on nurturing young talent to compete in the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

The launch event at Wankhede Stadium featured football star Lionel Messi, and players Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul among other dignitaries. 'Project Mahadeva' is part of Maharashtra's 'Mission Olympic 2026,' aiming for improved performance and increased medal count in sports.

The program offers scholarships and expert training in a bid to create a sustainable football ecosystem. The initiative is supported by corporate donations and administrative partnerships to scout and develop grassroots talent effectively.
