Joe Burns, the former Australia batter who played a pivotal role in Italy's T20 World Cup qualification, has been excluded from the squad due to unresolved contractual issues. As a result, Wayne Madsen has been appointed as Italy's captain.

The Italian Cricket Federation announced the decision after determining that internal evaluations prioritized team stability and continuity over short-term goals. Burns, who led Italy earlier this year, was unable to reach a full agreement with the federation.

Despite his strong family ties to Italy, Burns will not compete in Italy's first-ever global cricket event. Madsen, assuming leadership, will guide Italy through their World Cup campaign, starting against Bangladesh in Kolkata.
