Under the palm trees at Waialae Country Club, defending champion Nick Taylor showcased his mastery with the irons, achieving an impressive 8-under 62 at the start of the PGA Tour season at the Sony Open, sharing the lead with fellow golfer Kevin Roy.

This marks the latest start to the season due to the cancellation of The Sentry at Kapalua, caused by water issues. The Sony Open drew a competitive field, featuring four of the top 10 players in the world rankings.

Despite limited off-season play, Taylor impressed with birdies on three par 3s, barely missing a challenging 25-footer on the fourth. Meanwhile, Kevin Roy secured seven birdies in 11 holes, concluding his round with a birdie on the par-5 18th.
