In a decisive final ODI showdown against New Zealand, Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer failed to deliver, contributing to India's series loss. Aakash Chopra criticized the trio's lackluster performance, particularly highlighting Sharma's shot selections that resulted in his dismissals.

The Indian skipper's inability to build on promising starts was a focal point of discussion, with Chopra noting Sharma's run drought throughout the series. Rohit managed only 61 runs across three innings, averaging 20.33, causing significant strain on the team's batting lineup.

Despite these challenges, Shubman Gill defended Sharma, attributing potential failures to the difficulty of consistently converting starts into significant scores. However, Gill acknowledged the need for improvement. Meanwhile, powered by centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips, New Zealand achieved their landmark series victory over India in Indore.
