This marks Cooley's return to the England coaching team after over 20 years. His focus will be on developing fast bowlers across the England Men's teams and the England Men's International Pathway programs, including England Lions and Young Lions. Cooley is highly respected in the world of fast-bowling, having previously held the position of ECB National Pace Bowling Coach during the successful 2005 Ashes campaign.
Originally from Tasmania, Cooley spent the last 15 years in various coaching roles with Cricket Australia's National Performance Programme and more recently, since 2021, with the BCCI's National Cricket Academy. Rob Key, Managing Director of England Men's Cricket, praised Cooley as one of the finest coaches globally, highlighting his success in developing top-tier pace bowlers. Cooley's appointment aims to enhance not only the skills of current team players but also the upcoming fast-bowling prospects by establishing a robust framework for enduring success.
Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Cooley thanked the BCCI and its team for their support, especially VVS Laxman.
