Revolutionizing Maternal Care: Birth Waiting Homes for Tribal Women in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh is constructing 35 new birth waiting homes for tribal pregnant women under seven Integrated Tribal Development Agencies. These facilities, part of an initiative to enhance maternal healthcare, aim to ensure safer deliveries by providing care prior to childbirth. The project is set for completion by the end of this year.

The government of Andhra Pradesh is gearing up to enhance maternal healthcare for tribal women by building 35 new birth waiting homes. These homes will be distributed under seven Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDAs) across the state, aiming to address health and logistics challenges faced by pregnant women from remote areas.

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that these facilities would provide necessary care for pregnant women at least a week before delivery, ensuring safer childbirth and reducing related hardships. The project, with an estimated expenditure exceeding Rs 12 crore, includes construction in key areas such as Paderu, Rampachodavaram, and others.

Currently, 76 such centers are operational, offering their services alongside government hospitals. Once construction concludes, these homes are expected to benefit approximately 13,000 women annually. The initiative also provides financial support for food and wage compensation, highlighting the government's commitment to nurturing tribal communities.
