LIV Golf Secures World Ranking Points in Landmark OWGR Approval

LIV Golf has made a significant breakthrough as the Saudi-funded league has been granted the ability to receive official ranking points from the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) for the first time. The board's unanimous decision imposes conditions, where only top 10 finishers and ties will receive points.

This approval marks a new chapter for LIV Golf, which has been without ranking points since its 2022 launch, resulting in a lower field strength. Notable players in the league include Tyrrell Hatton and Bryson DeChambeau, with only a few others ranking in the top 100.

The decision, facilitated by current OWGR chairman Trevor Immelman and LIV's CEO Scott O'Neil, resolves an ongoing debate and establishes LIV as the 25th circuit in the OWGR. The league anticipates further growth as it transitions to a 72-hole format by 2026.
