Defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant started their Indian Super League season strongly, securing a decisive 2-0 win against Kerala Blasters at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharathi Krirangan.
Goals from Jamie Maclaren and Tom Aldred sealed the victory, with Maclaren scoring in the 36th minute and Aldred adding to the lead in injury time. The match also marked the ISL debut for several players, alongside new relegation rules being implemented this season.
In a significant shift, the All India Football Federation confirmed that the lowest-ranked team will be relegated to the Indian Football League, while the IFL champion will be promoted, introducing a system of promotion and relegation for the first time in the ISL's history.
