The US Centre for SafeSport has issued a permanent ban on Paralympic swimmer Robert Griswold following allegations of sexual assault against an autistic teammate during the 2021 Tokyo Games. The action comes after a lawsuit highlighted a series of misconducts by Griswold, though a 2023 judge dismissed the case due to jurisdictional issues.

The center, established in 2017 to address sexual abuse in Olympic sports, initially suspended Griswold in August 2022. This latest decision underscores a commitment to long-term cultural change, according to the center's CEO, Benita Fitzgerald Mosely.

While the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee has yet to comment, Griswold retains the right to appeal. Victim's attorneys praised the decision as a pivotal moment toward accountability and justice in sports.
