Karnataka's Export Boom: Navigating the IMEC Advantage
The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is transforming global trade routes, presenting new opportunities for Karnataka's exporters. The corridor is emerging as an efficient alternative to traditional routes like the Suez Canal. Highlights include gains from GST policies and Karnataka's robust export performance.
Karnataka's exporters are poised to reap significant benefits as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) emerges as a promising alternative to traditional maritime routes, amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
The IMEC is gaining traction as a more cost-effective and dependable path compared to the costly and time-consuming traditional routes like the Suez Canal and the Strait of Hormuz, according to Kotraswamy M, Commissioner of Central Tax, Bengaluru North. Addressing a seminar on geopolitical challenges and trade resilience, he stressed the need for reliable corridors amid rising global uncertainties.
Exporters from Karnataka, one of India's leading export states, are seeing increased gains from policy measures, including zero-rating under the GST, which allows tax refunds and has streamlined compliance. The state's export growth has been robust, driven by telecom instruments and petroleum exports, with stakeholders focusing on adaptability and resilience in a volatile global market.
