In a recent development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to announce the itinerary for the opening 20 days of the Indian Premier League 2026, factoring in upcoming state elections. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia assured the public this announcement will be made within two to three days.
Star Sports has confirmed March 28 as the start date for the 2026 IPL season, a revelation made before the finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The tournament schedule will be released in two phases due to state assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the current champions, secured victory against Punjab Kings in last year's final.
Furthermore, the Karnataka State Cricket Association's Santosh Menon announced the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will host five of RCB's home games, including the IPL 2026 final. The stadium's reopening follows its previous suspension due to a tragic stampede event, impacting previous cricket fixtures and local tournaments.
