Yoane Wissa Returns: DR Congo's World Cup Bid Gains Momentum

Democratic Republic of Congo striker Yoane Wissa marks his return to the national team for the crucial World Cup playoff this month. Wissa, who plays for Newcastle United, missed the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year due to a knee injury sustained during a World Cup qualifier.

The Congolese squad is set to compete in Guadalajara, Mexico, on March 31. Their opponent will be determined in a prior matchup between Jamaica and New Caledonia. The victor of this playoff will secure a spot in the World Cup, joining Group K alongside Colombia, Portugal, and Uzbekistan.

Coach Sebastien Desabre has announced a 26-player roster for the playoff. Notable returns include defender Dylan Batubinsika from AEL, Watford right back Jeremy Ngakia, and Elche's Grady Diangana, who missed the Cup of Nations. (Story by Mark Gleeson, Cape Town; Edited by Ken Ferris.)
