The postponement of the SportAccord conference, a significant event for Olympic and international sports officials, has been announced. Originally set for May 24–28 in Baku, Azerbaijan, the meeting was deferred due to rising tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Baku lies approximately 560 kilometers from Tehran, adding to the concerns.

Azerbaijan's sports minister, Farid Gayibov, affirmed the country's status as a secure, dependable partner for sports stakeholders. Lausanne-based organizers of SportAccord have promised to disclose new dates for the conference 'in due course.'

This annual conference serves as a platform for cities to advocate for hosting Olympics and sports events. However, it has only convened once since 2019, with previous cancellations attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia's military activities in Ukraine, and political issues in Turkey.
