The Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) has taken drastic action, suspending three of its first-class cricketers. The move comes in response to allegations that the players assaulted Venkataraman, the U-19 state team coach, on December 8 of last year. This suspension comes into immediate effect.
The players, identified as J Karthikeyan, A Aravindaraj, and S Santhosh Kumaran, have been significant figures in Puducherry's cricket, having represented the Union Territory across key tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Notably, Aravindaraj also participated in last season's domestic matches.
A formal charge sheet has been filed against them by SHO Sedurapet Police Station under FIR 100/2025, with charges including attempted murder and assault. Pending court adjudication, the CAP has barred the players from all association facilities and competitions. However, the accused can appeal to the state's Ethics Officer or Ombudsman.
