Delhi High Court Steers AITA Elections Under Judicial Supervision

The Delhi High Court permitted the All India Tennis Association (AITA) election results to stand under the supervision of an Administrator. Justice Gita Mittal is appointed to oversee AITA's interim executive committee and align its functions with legal standards, amid concerns from prominent tennis players regarding the election process.

The Delhi High Court has given a green signal to the All India Tennis Association (AITA) elections that occurred on September 28, 2024, albeit with stringent conditions. The elected members of AITA will function as an interim body under the scrutiny of Justice (Retd.) Gita Mittal, appointed by the court.

Chintan Parikh now holds the position as the new AITA President with Sunder Iyer serving as the General Secretary, amid assurances from the interim committee to focus on advancing Indian tennis, particularly at the junior level. Justice Mittal is tasked with ensuring the realignment of AITA's constitution with the National Sports Code by June 2025.

Notably, the court has temporarily restricted the interim body from making financial commitments without judicial approval and demands adherence to updated by-laws. This decision follows challenges from former tennis champions Somdev Devvarman and Purav Raja concerning election procedures and adherence to governance norms.
