Kuldeep Kumar Breaks National Pole Vault Record in Thrilling Indoor Debut
Madhya Pradesh pole vaulter Kuldeep Kumar set a new national record by clearing 5.41m, surpassing rivals at the Indian Indoor Open. Competing in his first indoor event, Kumar surpassed the previous national record, with fellow athlete Dev Kumar Meena ending in third place.
Madhya Pradesh’s pole vault sensation Kuldeep Kumar shattered the previous national record at the Indian Indoor Open by clearing 5.41m, surpassing more experienced contenders. The 21-year-old’s achievement marks his first indoor event victory.
In a thrilling conclusion to the competition, Kumar outperformed even his training partner Dev Kumar Meena, the previous record-holder, who settled for bronze with an effort of 5.20m. Reegan G of Tamil Nadu secured the silver with a 5.25m vault.
The intense rivalry saw attempts to surpass 5.35m, with Meena and Reegan both faltering. Meanwhile, the heptathlon witnessed N Thowfeeq leading with 2943 points, closely followed by Odisha’s Jashbir Nayak.
