Ganemat Sekhon Leads Indian Contenders at ISSF World Cup
India's Ganemat Sekhon impressed with her performance at the ISSF World Cup, ending day one just outside the top eight. Veteran Mairaj Ahmad Khan had a challenging day in the skeet competition. Other Indian shooters, including Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Gurjoat Singh Khangura, also faced difficulties.
India's shooting star, Ganemat Sekhon, showcased her skills at the ISSF World Cup Shotgun in Cairo, narrowly missing out on the top eight with 70 out of 75 points, as Monday's competition ended.
Sekhon, from Chandigarh, holds a notable silver medal from this range three years ago and is the top-ranked Indian in the event, positioned ninth overall. With 50 qualification targets and finals looming on Tuesday, her prospects remain bright.
In contrast, seasoned shooter Mairaj Ahmad Khan's performance was disappointing. His initial score of 25 points evaporated with subsequent rounds of 23 and 23, landing him at 26th place. Fellow Olympians, including Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Raiza Dhillon, struggled to find their rhythm at this crucial event in the year of the Asian Games.
