Hockeytown Welcomes New Pro Women's Hockey Team

The Professional Women's Hockey League is expanding to include Detroit as its latest franchise city, as confirmed by the league's announcement on Wednesday. The new team's matches are scheduled to start in the 2026-27 season.

The initiative is spearheaded by Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, known for its association with the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and MLB's Detroit Tigers. The new PWHL team is set to play its home games at Little Caesars Arena.

Detroit, which has hosted several PWHL events since 2024, is already familiar ground for the league. Notably, the city will also host the 2026 PWHL Draft on June 17, further cementing its role in supporting women's professional hockey.
