Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for advancing India's sports culture during an event on Saturday. He highlighted Ahmedabad's upcoming role as the host for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and India's bid for the 2036 Olympics, as catalysts to elevate the morale of homegrown athletes.
Addressing the gathering while laying the foundation stone for an international cricket stadium in Gorakhpur, Adityanath outlined comprehensive plans to develop sports infrastructure across the state. The cricket stadium, covering 46 acres and costing Rs 393 crore, is being developed with the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas's assistance. Beyond this, a sports complex, hotels, and markets are planned for the adjoining land.
Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, was present as Adityanath emphasized the government's initiative in creating necessary sports infrastructure. He cited existing programs like 'Khelo India' and 'Fit India', aiming to nurture local sports talent, enhance athletic participation, and leverage international events to provide a global platform for Indian athletes.
