Rick Fox, a former NBA star known for his time with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics, has been appointed to the Bahamian Senate. The appointment fills one of four seats designated for members of the opposition in the 16-member Senate.

Fox, aligned with the Free National Movement (FNM), joined the Senate days after a closely contested bid for a seat in the Bahamian House of Assembly. He has emphasized his commitment to bolstering political transparency and accountability, aiming for an economy that benefits more Bahamians.

Born to a Bahamian father and a Canadian mother, Fox transitioned into politics after his NBA career, previously serving as an ambassador-at-large appointed by the Progressive Liberal Party. This move into the Senate marks a significant chapter in his political journey.
