Inglis to Lead Australia as Marsh Bows Out of ODI Series
Australia faces a major challenge as Mitchell Marsh is sidelined due to an ankle injury ahead of the ODI series against Pakistan. Josh Inglis will take over the captaincy for the series, starting May 30. Marsh's injury leaves Australia's squad without several star players like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc.
Australia faces a significant blow to their ODI series plans against Pakistan with Mitchell Marsh ruled out due to an ankle injury. In his absence, wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis will lead the Australian team in the three-match series commencing on May 30, according to the ICC.
Inglis, previously at the helm for an ODI and three T20Is against Pakistan in November 2024, steps up as captain. Marsh, who was in stellar form during the IPL with 563 runs from 13 matches, remains in Perth for further medical evaluation and treatment. He missed Lucknow Super Giants' final IPL game and returned to Australia earlier than planned.
Australia's post-Pakistan tour will take them to Bangladesh for ODIs and T20Is, but Marsh's participation remains uncertain. Australia's squad is further depleted with star pacers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc also missing. For the Pakistan series, several players including Cooper Connolly and Ben Dwarshuis were omitted, having been expected to play in the IPL playoffs, a dream cut short as Punjab Kings failed to qualify.
