Pooja Singh, a rising star in Indian athletics, achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the national senior high jump record at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships. Her jump of 1.93 meters surpassed the previous record of 1.92 meters held since 2012 by Sahana Kumari, who was cheering from the sidelines as Singh's coach.

The 19-year-old's outstanding performance earned her a gold medal, contributing to India's overall success on the second day of the event. India moved up to second place in the medal tally, only behind China. Singh attempted the Asian junior record of 1.96 meters but narrowly missed. Her previous personal best was 1.90 meters.

Despite failing to set the Asian junior record, Singh's incredible achievement comes as no surprise. She is the current Asian champion, having won gold at the Asian Championships in South Korea last year. Growing up in Haryana, Singh practiced with improvised equipment due to financial hardships. Her journey from a gymnast to a record-breaking high jumper exemplifies her determination.

India has so far secured four golds, two silvers, and two bronze medals in the championships. Nitin Gupta, Amanat Kamboj, and Rahul Jakhar also contributed gold medals in their respective events, adding to India's medal haul.
