Bayer Leverkusen has officially named Spaniard Carles Martinez Novell as the club's new manager, confirmed on Thursday. His appointment follows the departure of Kasper Hjulmand, who exits the role after just one season.

Martinez, previously at the helm of Toulouse in the French league, is set to begin his tenure on July 1, 2026. The contract, valid until June 30, 2028, marks an important step in Martinez's career as he transitions to managing Leverkusen.

During his time at Toulouse, Martinez led the team to mid-table finishes over three seasons in France's top division. Meanwhile, Leverkusen ended the last Bundesliga season in sixth place, aiming for new successes under their incoming coach.
