Indian Boxers Excel in World Rankings with Dominant Performances
Indian boxers made significant progress in the World Boxing Rankings, with Minakshi Hooda and Jaismine Lamboria hitting world No. 1 in their categories. The rankings, vital for seeding in major tournaments, highlight strong performances from Indian women and men in global boxing competitions.
In a remarkable display of prowess, Indian boxers marked an impressive ascent in the latest World Boxing Rankings released on Thursday. Minakshi Hooda and Jaismine Lamboria both clinched the coveted world No. 1 spot in their respective weight divisions, as reported by Olympics.com. Minakshi retained her position atop the women's 48kg category by securing a gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championships in March. Meanwhile, Jaismine's elevation to the top of the women's 57kg class came after a commendable silver-medal finish at the Asian Championships in Mongolia, surpassing Julia Szeremeta.
The rankings, formulated from the results of key international competitions spanning from July 2024 to May 2026, including World Boxing Cup events, serve a crucial role. They determine seedings for prestigious tournaments like the 2026 Asian Games and the imminent Commonwealth Games. In women's boxing, notable advancements include Preeti Pawar's rise to No. 3 in the 54kg division, matched by Priya Ghanghas in the 60kg class. Additionally, Arundhati Choudhary, Pooja Rani, and Nupur secured second positions in the 70kg, 80kg, and over 80kg categories, respectively.
Overall, Indian women claimed top-10 positions in nine out of ten categories, while their male counterparts were represented in eight out of ten divisions. Among other distinguished rankings, former world champion Nikhat Zareen maintained her fourth position in the women's 51kg class, with Lovlina Borgohain placed seventh in the 75kg category. On the men's side, Vishvanath Suresh ascended to world No. 3 in the 50kg division, and Sachin Siwach broke into the top five of the 60kg category. The rankings also saw Abhinash Jamwal at eighth in 65kg, Hitesh Gulia sixth in 70kg, Akash at eighth in 75kg, and Lokesh eighth in 85kg. Other notable inclusions were Jadumani Mandengbam and Harsh Choudhary, holding rankings of seventh in the 50kg and tenth in the 90kg divisions, respectively.
