Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has thrown his weight behind the International Cricket Council's (ICC) contemplated shift from a red ball to a pink ball to combat the challenges posed by poor lighting in Test matches. With the Afghanistan Test looming, Gambhir stressed preventing teams from losing crucial match-winning chances due to external factors.

During a press briefing ahead of India's solitary Test match against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, Gambhir underscored the potential unfairness if low light were to halt play, thus jeopardizing teams' possibilities of securing their spot in significant tournaments.

'Imagine playing the last Test match before a World Test Championship final, with a chance to qualify, only to be thwarted by bad light,' Gambhir remarked. 'This move by the ICC is both proactive and positive, ensuring teams are not deprived of results they've worked hard for over two years.'

India, having experienced a 2-0 defeat in their recent home series against South Africa, currently occupies the sixth position in the World Test Championship standings with 48.15% of available points from nine matches. (ANI)
