Bangladesh's Dilara Akter broke national records with a rapid 22-ball half-century, guiding her team to a thrilling win against the Netherlands in a rain-shortened T20I match in Edinburgh. Despite fierce competition from the Dutch side, Bangladesh maintained the edge, securing a 13-run victory.
Bangladesh opener Dilara Akter achieved a record-breaking performance, leading her team to a 13-run triumph over the Netherlands in a rain-affected women's T20I tri-series match in Edinburgh on Thursday. Akter's explosive half-century, made off a mere 22 balls, set a new benchmark for Bangladesh in T20 international cricket, surpassing Rumana Ahmed's previous national record.
As per ICC, Akter’s dynamic innings of 51 runs from 26 deliveries, embellished with eight fours and a pair of sixes, paved the way for Bangladesh's competitive total of 98 for 3, given the match was curtailed to eight overs per innings. Her milestone 22-ball fifty is among the quickest in women's T20I history. Bangladesh's innings was bolstered by an aggressive 42-run opening stand by Akter and Juairiya Ferdous, followed by a crucial partnership with Sobhana Mostary, ensuring sustained momentum.
The Netherlands, in pursuit of 99, put up a steadfast challenge, with Heather Siegers scoring 21 off 15 balls and Babette de Leede amassing 30 from 14 deliveries. Their initial 53-run partnership off 28 balls kept the Dutch hopes alive. However, Bangladesh's left-arm seamer Fariha Trisna turned the tide with two pivotal wickets in the fifth over. Although Robine Rijke scored a swift 21, Bangladesh's Ritu Moni clinched the win by taking two wickets in the final over, leaving the Netherlands at 85 for 5. This victory cements Bangladesh's spot at second in the tri-series standings, just behind Scotland, as the teams prepare for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in June.
