Captain Shubman Gill's unbeaten 84 led India to a seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in a rain-delayed ODI. Chasing 195, India achieved victory with 13 balls to spare. Despite a quick-fire century by Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan faltered, while Gill's steady knock ensured India's success in the first of the three-match series.
In a rain-delayed one-day international in Dharamshala, Captain Shubman Gill shone with an unbeaten 84, steering India to a seven-wicket triumph over Afghanistan. Chasing a target of 195, the hosts secured victory with 13 balls to spare in a match reduced to 25 overs.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz led Afghanistan's innings with a swift century in just 48 balls, the fastest by an Afghan player in ODIs. However, his effort was overshadowed as his teammates faltered. Gurbaz's aggressive innings, featuring eight sixes and eight boundaries, ended when Nitish Kumar Reddy bowled him out soon after his landmark score.
India, however, maintained control with Shubman Gill's calculated knock alongside support from KL Rahul. Despite losing opener Rohit Sharma early, the Indian side's strong batting lineup ensured they reached the target comfortably. The teams are set to face off again in the second of the three-match series on Wednesday in Lucknow.
