The event, a significant part of the European boxing calendar, aims to enhance India's preparation for upcoming major international tournaments.
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has unveiled a 12-member squad for the prestigious Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in Czechia, slated from June 17 to June 21. The squad includes prominent names such as Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and reigning Asian Championships gold medallist Preeti Pawar, as India ramps up preparations for the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2026.
The event, one of Europe's longest-running boxing tournaments, will allow Indian athletes to assess their skills in a competitive European setting. BFI President Ajay Singh emphasizes the importance of such platforms for enhancing athletes' experience, exposure, and confidence as they face international opponents. The tournament features competitions across 10 men's and 10 women's weight categories.
Notable absentees from the squad are World No. 1 Jaismine Lamboria and Arundhati Choudhary, who are undergoing recovery from injuries. The men's team will feature boxers like Jadumani Singh and Sachin Siwach. As part of the BFI's efforts, the tournament will serve as a crucial step in better preparing Indian boxers for a busy international schedule ahead.
