San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy knows that his team remains in contention to sign prized free agent outfielder Bryce Harper. However, the 63-year-old skipper is not changing his style or holding his breath while Harper nears a final decision.
"No, I don't think about it," Bochy told reporters Wednesday. "Right now, this is my club and we don't know what his decision is going to be. The fact that we're one of the teams that are talking to him, we appreciate that. "Just like our free agents that are signed to come here, we're grateful that we're in the mix. Sure, we hope things work out. But I can't be concerned with something I don't have. So my focus right now is with this club, and I'm sure it's got to be close (to a final decision). I don't know. You think it would be."
Harper, 26, could provide an immediate boost to an ageing Giants squad that has won three World Series titles in the past decade. The Las Vegas native had a second meeting on Tuesday with the Giants, according to a report from ESPN. Other reports said the Giants have discussed the possibility of signing Harper to a 10-year deal, which would match the contract length that Manny Machado received earlier this month when he signed with the San Diego Padres.
The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly also are competing to sign Harper.
