LFP worried over planned reforms to Champions League

The French Football League (LFP) is seriously concerned over planned reforms to the Champions League, it said on Wednesday, adding to criticism voiced by the English Premier League. UEFA has said that it will work with the European Club Association (ECA), which represents 232 of the region's biggest clubs, to reform its club competitions from 2024 onwards.
In turn, The ECA has said it wants more clubs playing more European matches, leaving domestic leagues worried that a new calendar could designate weekends for UEFA competition matches. The LFP, which includes the top two tiers of the French league system, said that its administrative council had "expressed serious concerns for these planned reforms which threaten the sporting and economic competitiveness of Europe’s domestic championships."
On Friday, the English Premier League said it would "vigorously defend" itself against plans to impose a new calendar. The European Leagues umbrella group also said on Friday that it would take a more active role in influencing public opinion and shaping the future of football on the continent. It reiterated its claim that fans prefer domestic league action to UEFA competition.
UEFA and the ECA have not given further details of their plans which they say are at the preliminary stages.
