Cubs starting shortstop Javier Baez was replaced by Addison Russell when Chicago took the field for the bottom of the sixth inning Sunday night against the Washington Nationals. Baez appeared to twist his ankle when he made a sparkling play on a grounder off the bat of Washington starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson in the last of the third.

Baez walked around the infield after the play and stayed in the game until Russell came on in the sixth to play short. Baez entered the game hitting .324 with 11 homers. Russell made a throwing error on an infield single in the sixth by Adam Eaton, putting runners at second and third with one out. Anthony Rendon homered two pitches later to narrow the Cubs' lead to 6-4.
