Santana agrees to minor league deal with Mets

The New York Mets agreed to a minor league deal with veteran right-hander Ervin Santana on Friday. Santana, 36, still must pass a physical to make the deal official.

Santana struggled with the Chicago White Sox earlier this season, going 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA in three starts. He served up six homers in just 13 1/3 innings before being designated for assignment. After clearing waivers, Santana chose to become a free agent.

Santana was an American League All-Star for the Minnesota Twins in 2017 when he went 16-8 with a 3.28 ERA and three shutouts in 33 starts. An injury to his right middle finger, however, sabotaged his 2018 campaign as he went 0-1 with an 8.03 ERA in five starts.

Overall, Santana is 149-127 with a 4.09 ERA in 387 appearances (384 starts) over 15 seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2005-12), Kansas City Royals (2013), Atlanta Braves (2014), Twins (2015-18) and White Sox. --Field Level Media
