The Seattle Mariners dealt outfielder Jay Bruce to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday in exchange for minor league third baseman Jake Scheiner and cash considerations. "I look forward to going over there and helping the Phillies hopefully win a championship," Bruce said. "That's my goal. I just want to win."

Financial terms were not disclosed, but USA Today reported that the Phillies will assume most of the $21.5 million remaining on Bruce's contract. The 32-year-old Bruce is hitting .212 with 14 homers and 28 RBIs in 47 games this season. Scheiner, 23, is hitting .256 with two homers and 20 RBIs at Clearwater in the Florida State League. He will report to Class A Modesto in the California League.

--The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-hander Jhoulys Chacin on the 10-day injured list due to a strained lower back. It marked the second straight day that Milwaukee placed a starting pitcher on the IL. Left-hander Gio Gonzalez (arm fatigue) joined the list Saturday.

Chacin said his back stiffened up Saturday, one day after he was shelled for seven runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings while losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is 3-7 with a 5.74 ERA in 12 starts.

--The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Joey Gallo on the 10-day injured list because of a strained left oblique muscle. In a corresponding move, the Rangers recalled outfielder Delino DeShields from Triple-A Nashville. Gallo, 25, came out of Saturday's game against Kansas City in the fifth inning while he was at the plate with a 3-2 count. On the season, he is batting .276 with 17 home runs and 41 RBIs in 50 games.

--The Washington Nationals signed veteran reliever Fernando Rodney to a minor league deal, according to multiple reports. The 42-year-old is expected to be assigned to Triple-A Fresno. The Oakland Athletics designated the struggling right-hander for assignment a week ago. Rodney had a 9.42 ERA during 17 appearances this season.
