The Texas Rangers traded right-handed reliever Pete Fairbanks to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for minor league second baseman Nick Solak, the team announced on Saturday. Solak will join Triple-A Nashville, leaving the Rangers with 39 players on the 40-man roster.

Solak, 24, hit .266 with 17 home runs in 85 games with Triple-A Durham this season. He has yet to make his major league debut. Fairbanks, 25, made eight relief appearances with the Rangers this season, going 0-2 with a 9.35 ERA, though he does have 15 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings. He'll be assigned to Durham.
