Los Angeles Angels right-hander Noe Ramirez was suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for hitting Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick with a pitch in Tuesday's game. Angels manager Brad Ausmus was suspended for one game and also fined an undisclosed amount, according to Major League Baseball chief baseball officer Joe Torre. Ausmus will serve his punishment Wednesday night when the Astros and Angels play again.

Ramirez will appeal his suspension, according to multiple media reports, delaying the possible penalty until after the process is complete. There has been bad blood between the two teams since Marisnick went out of his path to bowl over Los Angeles catcher Jonathan Lucroy during a play at the plate on July 7. Lucroy sustained a concussion and a broken nose on the play and is expected to be sidelined for at least three more weeks.

Marisnick was booed throughout Tuesday's game at Angel Stadium and was up at the plate in the sixth inning with a 1-1 count when Ramirez drilled with him in the upper back with a pitch. After Marinsick reached first base, Angels first baseman Albert Pujols advanced toward the Astros' dugout in response to apparent verbal comments from Houston pitchers Lance McCullers and Justin Verlander.

The benches and bullpens emptied on to the field before cooler heads prevailed. After the game, Astros manager A.J. Hinch complained that the Angels took a "free shot at (Marisnick) with no warning, with no ejection."
