The Seattle Mariners transferred right-hander Felix Hernandez to the 60-day injured list Sunday as he continues to recover from a shoulder strain. Hernandez, 33, was placed on the 10-day IL on May 12 and made a rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on June 14.

He is 1-4 with a 6.52 ERA and had 34 strikeouts in eight starts this season, including his 2,500th career strikeout on May 11 at Boston. The six-time All-Star and 2010 American League Cy Young Award winner are in his 15th season with the Mariners. He is 169-132 with a 3.38 ERA in 412 games (411 starts).

Seattle also reinstated right-handed reliever Hunter Strickland from the 60-day IL and optioned right-hander Matt Carasiti to Triple-A Tacoma. Strickland, 30, tallied two saves in the season-opening series against Oakland in Tokyo but landed on the IL with a right lat strain after blowing a March 29 save opportunity against Boston.

Carasiti, 28, is 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA in 11 games (five starts) for the Mariners this season. --Field Level Media
